Skills Workshop

Skills Workshop: Home page

The long-standing Skills Workshop website was proving to be very time-consuming for the owner, Maggie Harnew, to keep updated. New contributors continued to send in new teaching resources, but the time taken to add resources to the site meant that a back-log was building up. Luckily, Maggie won the LSIS Star Award 2009 in the Skills for Life category, and the prize money funded conversion of the site into a Drupal content-managed site. This has enabled Maggie to spend more time concentrating on editing submitted resources, and less time having to maintain the web pages themselves.

Fill That Hole

Fill That Hole: Home page

For many decades the CTC had been running a pothole reporting system using pre-printed postcards. With the advent of online mapping, it became possible to report hazard locations via a website.

Fill That Hole was originally a small part of the large CTC Maps website project. But it soon became very popular with cyclists and other road users, and is now heavily used.

The site was shut down after 17 years when the service was moved to be handled by MySociety's FixMyStreet website.

Degos Disease

Degos Disease is an extremely rare skin complaint, which sadly proves to be fatal for many sufferers. The biggest problem in discovering the cause of the disease is caused by the lack of information because only a few hundred people in the world have the symptoms.

Fonant built the original Degos Disease website using a combination of the phpBB forum software and some custom content management code. In 2010 the site was re-built using Drupal 6, providing much more flexibility and potential for future upgrades and ease of maintenance.
